While we might be new though, our groomer, Jade, has years of experience so we caught up with her to get the whole Jade lowdown and to find out why she thinks Brentwood Bubbles 'N' Barks is all set to be one of the best dog groomers in Brentwood.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be an artist. I love anything to do with arts and crafts and creating things! I guess dog grooming falls under that category too in a way.

How did you find out about Hopefield and Brentwood Bubbles 'N' Barks

I knew about Hopefield Animal Sanctuary anyway as I bring my little boy to visit the animals! However, finding out about the Dog Grooming position was pure luck!

When and how did I become a Dog Groomer?

I had a few different jobs when I was younger and then I started working at a local dog groomers about eight years ago. I realised it was my passion and have been dog grooming ever since.

Tell us about a typical day in the life of Jade

My trio of dogs

My day usually starts at around 5:30am when Dolly, one of my three dogs, stands on my head to wake me up so I can let her out into the garden! I then wake my little boy up to get ready for school, drop him off and head over to Brentwood Bubbles 'N' Barks.

Roo, my French Bulldog / Poodle cross, comes with me most days as she is my little velcro dog and I sing (terribly) at her in the car on the way. I then work with all your wonderful dogs throughout the day making them all fresh and giving them all different haircuts. My day finishes at 5pm and then, depending on the day, I'll either pick up my son or head to the gym - my arms get a great workout every day while groomin not so much the rest of me.

What are the highlights of being a dog groomer?

I LOVE my job.. I love making little friendships with each dog that comes in and learning about out their personalities - like people, every dog is different. Not every dog that comes in is comfortable with being groomed, so I love seeing these dogs gain their confidence in both me and the experience.

I also get immense satisfaction when a dog comes to me REALLY in need of a groom for whatever reason, and I get to give them a makeover. A freshly trimmed dog makes me ridiculously happy.

Which dog breed is most likely to take your fingers off?

I have been bitten plenty over the years but to be honest there isn't a breed that stands out. I love ALL breeds and by building a bond with all my doggy clients it definitely minimises the risk and helps towards saving my fingertips.

Which dog breed is most likely to lick you to death?

Spaniels and bulldogs all day every day. I swear their mission is to make sure I get a bath too when they're in - through licks!

Which dog breed is most likely to try and ping off the walls?

Labradors or collies.... their energy levels are CRAZY and I've never met one that isn't full on fun.

Which dog breed is the noisiest whilst being groomed?

Huskies like to perform their very own orchestra whilst being groomed., it's seriously impressive!

Which dog breed is the most chill whilst being groomed?

Bichons.! They are usually so used to being groomed, that they sit back and enjoy the spa time.

Tell us three things that might surprise us about you - not dog grooming related!

I eat tomato puree straight out of the tube, and I'm not talking a little bit, I'm talking the whole tube situation.

I am a die-hard horror film fan and often watch them before bed. Halloween is my favourite time of the year!

I LOVE snails - it's a borderline obsession. I used to have two Giant African Land Snails called Gerald and Gloria who I would bathe every Sunday and use a toothbrush to clean them with.

If you want to find a groomers in Brentwood where the service is not just about giving your dogs the best service in town, but also about making them comfortable, happy and EXCITED to get a groom, then our chilled, friendly environment is what you've been looking for. We don't back-to-back book our appointments so there is always time for treats and playtime for your dog after their groom.

It's also wonderful that all the profits from Bubbles 'N' Barks go back into helping to care for the 600 rescued animals that call Hopefield home. It feels amazing that I can help in some way to not just make the dogs that I groom look and feel good, but to also help raise much needed funds for the sanctuary. I get a double whammy of feelgood factor every day!

I can't wait to meet you all - humans and dogs alike!
